Dear Friend of Monument Futures:

I want to take just a moment of your time to tell you about the incredible Holiday Open House we held on Friday, December 9. We had planned a casual get together with our members, our volunteers, our donors and our other friends. I was unprepared for what happened.

We had planned to take a "few moments" for several staff and members to talk about the great year we have had in 2005 and our plans for 2006, like:
  • Incorporating step-by-step training into our Day Labor Program
  • Promoting and expanding job opportunities for women through our new Mujeres con Futuros / Women with Futures program
  • Starting our advanced classes in our Technology Empowerment Program
  • Expanding our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to include financial training in partnership with the Financial Action Community Teams and Wells Fargo.
  • Becoming the Monument's first Affiliate One-Stop Career Center in partnership with the Workforce Investment Board.
  • Becoming the Monument's first Library Annex in partnership with the county library system.

But we got much more than we have given. I only wish we had captured it on video for you to see.

One by one, members stood up and talked about their own experience since becoming a part of Monument Futures. Here are a few excerpts of what they had to say:

Martin: "When I came to this country from Argentina, I had forgotten my dreams.... I came to Monument Futures with low expectations.... Since then, I have gotten a full time job. I have taken up my art work again and created the logo for Monument Futures and the Monument Community Pride Festival.... I want to say to my fellow immigrants: Don't forget your dreams."

John: "With love you can achieve everything"

Fabiola: "This project helps the community and the Latin Women in special because it gives us the tools to grow with out the barrier of the language and culture"

Mirna: "The program (computer classes) has helping me in my personal life , to feel more secure about myself and why not, to increase my self esteem for being part of the program and knowing that I am intelligent"

I know there are a lot of demands on your attention and your funds in this holiday season. But please consider making a donation so we can keep supporting these amazing people who are working so hard to make their dreams a reality.

Your donation is not only an investment in their futures. It is an investment in yours.

Very happy holidays! May 2006 be the year we realize our dreams.
