Concord’s Monument Corridor to Receive Library Services

Contra Costa County Library and Monument Futures, a new, cutting-edge economic development program serving the diverse residents and local businesses in the Monument Boulevard community of Concord, have joined together to bring library services to the area. Thanks to a generous donation by Mark DeSaulnier, Contra Costa County Supervisor, District 4, a library computer will be installed in the Monument Futures location at 2699 Monument Blvd Suite G, Concord. Residents can reserve books, CD’s, videos, DVD’s and other materials that will then be delivered to Monument Futures on a weekly basis.

If we can bring programs directly into the Monument Corridor that help children and students read more, then we’re making important progress in our community within the realm of education,” said Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier. “This is out-of-the-box thinking at its best,” he added.

In cooperation with Monument Futures, the library will be offering classes in Spanish and English on how to use the online catalogue to reserve materials and on how to use library databases. “Transportation to the community libraries is a problem for many residents of the Monument corridor, so, we wanted to bring library services out to the community,” says Maureen Kilmurray, coordinator for the project.

Currently, the Contra Costa County Library offers its online catalogue in both English and Spanish. In addition, several of the community libraries have Spanish language books and media collections that residents of the Monument can reserve and have delivered to Monument Futures.

An Open House and celebration of the new library services will be held at Monument Futures, 2699 Monument Blvd. Suite G, Concord, CA. on Friday, May 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
