Broadband Awareness Workshops
Update: October 2011
The Broadband Awareness & Adoption initiative has come to a close. Read below about the success of the project over the past year and a half.
Taking technology empowerment beyond the walls of the classroom, teachers gave computer lessons throughout the community. In a world where technology dominates, those without computer skill get left behind. In an effort to connect as many people as possible with the resources of computers and the Internet, the Chavez Center led a group of nonprofits in hosting workshops across Central Contra Costa County.
Equipped with a mobile lab, the workshop visited various businesses, community organizations, churches, and other locations to teach lessons covering e‐mail, accessing healthcare, searching for jobs and more.
Over its 18-month duration, the program reached more than 750 community members. Many went on to take computer classes at the Chavez Center to further expand their computer knowledge.
The Chavez Center was proud to be a part of such a successful initiative serving the Latino population across the County. While the projecthas reached its term, we hope to create a mobile lab model in the future to continue this amazing work. You can help make this a reality by donating to the Chavez Center.
