Day Labor & Civic Engagement

Day laborerIt’s 6am and the sun is just barely breaking over the horizon to shed light on employers arriving to hire the trained workers who eagerly await work for the day. While they wait, all of the workers learn specialized skills, engage in volunteer service, and practice English so that one day they can move on to more reliable employment and end the daily waiting game…

Help end their waiting game now, and hire a worker!

The Day Labor and Civic Engagement program fosters professional growth by offering vocational ESL classes, trade skills workshops and a trusted place for members and employers to form job connections at fair wages. Commitment to personal growth through volunteer opportunities and leadership development encourages members to become active leaders and role models in their community.

Last Year:

  • Nearly 100 members found increased economic security.
  • 65 members took ESL classes.
  • The community benefited from more than 2800 hours of community service from our members.

Looking into the future:

  • Case management aspects will help members identify barriers to employment.
  • Workshops will incorporate resume and interview skills.
  • A larger women’s program is being developed.
  • Health care education will provide leadership opportunities and dispel misinformation in the community.
  • An extermination service will launch giving at least 5 men stable employment.
