In its two years of operation, the Business Development program wasted no time in stimulating the economy with the launch of 5 new businesses. Each has carved its own niche market and has found much success.

Green & Clean Professional Housecleaning

Green and Clean is an eco‐friendly household cleaning company that was started with the help of the Michael Chavez Center in 2009. It is a worker‐owned cooperative which means each woman is a profit sharing, decision making owner of the company. The business offers unique eco‐friendly service that promotes the health of both workers and homeowners. In 2011 the business merged with Natural Home Cleaning as their Contra Costa County branch. Evergreen Landscaping Services

Evergreen Services is a worker‐owned cooperative started in 2010 by low income members of the Monument community in Concord, Ca. Their goal is to provide quality, eco‐friendly services to the community and to create living wage jobs in a safe and healthy environment to support their families. Recently the business completed a project demonstrating their high level of craftsmanship at Del Rey Elementary school. Aromas

Aromas is a catering cooperative that specializes in healthy, Latin inspired food. They started in 2010 with a microloan from the Chavez Center after taking business development training. This is a worker-owned cooperative started by individuals who all had experience in the food industry. They brought their passion for food into their own business with a purposeful intent of educating the community about obesity and health. In 2010 they catered our Thanks for Giving volunteer recognition event, where the satisfied faces of volunteers were surprised that healthy food could taste so amazing. Chinches No Más

Launched in May 2011, Chinches No Más (Bedbugs No More) took to community apartments and homes to eradicate the pests. Another business cooperative, the founding six low‐income members find themselves with steady work and decision‐making power. As an eco‐friendly business, the workers and property owners avoid exposure to toxic chemicals, while still providing a quality service. Prometech Services

In late 2010, graduates of the A+ computer repair course [link] came together to startup their own computer repair and refurbishing business.
