About Us
The Michael Chavez Center for Economic Opportunity offers the Monument Corridor and wider Concord community opportunities in job training, career coaching and employment connections. We empower individuals to become financially self-sufficient, realize their personal potential and actively participate in the community.
In 1997, a comprehensive survey was conducted of the Monument community that revealed some alarming statistics. Poverty, unemployment, and crime were just some of the issues in the Monument corridor. Unwilling to let this go unnoticed, we created a safe haven for people to find work and a better quality of life. A hiring hall launched to ensure quality work and fair wages for about 30 workers. Eventually the members took ownership of the Center shaping it to offer more opportunities for employment.
Years later, the vision has expanded to encompass so much more. Now with four programs in full operation, the opportunities for family
economic security are expanding. The road to employment can be long and arduous, but at the
Chavez Center the individualized attention brings hope to more and more families. Low-income and unemployed residents find the
training, support, job connections, and career guidance that they need to get back on their feet. Since the unprecedented
establishment and economic development center in Concord, we have reached out to more than 2400 area residents.
I thank the Michael Chavez Center for having their doors open to anyone seeking to excel.
