Who is Michael Chavez?

Michael ChavezCouncilmember Michael Chavez was a pioneer in making inroads for the disadvantaged and underutilized people of Concord. The Michael Chavez Center, formerly known as Monument Futures, desires to continue the work he began and carry out his vision.

A 27‐year Concord resident and business owner, Michael Chavez was elected to the City Council in November 2006. His wife, Vikki, continues to operate Charisma Salon on Clayton Road in Concord, the business they co‐founded in 1979.

Councilmember Chavez had an affinity for the Monument Community and a concern for the overall wellbeing of the City of Concord. He stood on committees and groups tackling issues such as housing, economic development, schools, literacy, transportation, parks, and more. He also served on the first Board of Councilors of the Concord campus of California State University, East Bay. For Chavez, the social issues affecting the city were of the utmost importance.

The Michael Chavez Center continues making his vision for Concord and the Monument Corridor a reality.
