Our vision
For the Monument Corridor neighborhood to become a connected community with a vibrant economy, where everyone has the chance to make rewarding economic and social choices.
Our mission
To provide people who live or work in the Monument Community with the means to develop the confidence, competence, connections and capital it takes to make it in America.
Monument Community Partnership's 10-Year Goal
As a part of the Monument Community Partnership, Monument Futures will participate in measurably increasing the social and economic mobility of current residents and local businesses in the Monument Community, in ways that benefit both the community and the City of Concord.
Background
The Monument Community is a vibrant, diverse, but severely under-resourced community in the heart of Concord, California. The people who live, work and operate businesses here want what everyone else wants – to have the opportunity to be rewarded for their hard work. Yet, despite their ambitions and talents, the 2000 U.S. census indicated that 63% of residents who live here are low income and more than 40% are very low income.
Meanwhile, many opportunities, resources and programs that have proven successful in building family and community income and assets elsewhere are simply not available in the Monument. Furthermore, the Monument Community has valuable human resources that are in demand throughout the East Bay region, yet are not being adequately supported or promoted.
In partnership with the Monument Community Partnership, the Neighborhood Action Teams, and other organizations, Monument Futures will “import” and build on some of the best models in the U.S. and worldwide to create social and economic opportunity for the residents and businesses of the Monument Community.
